

Grand Ledge, Michigan
Age 88, went to be with the Lord June 26, 2015. He was born March 26, 1927 in Isabella County, Michigan to Hattie (Nevins) and Herbert Varney. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Vern had 6 siblings, Leo, Francis, Bob, Betty, Herbert and Al. He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II as Seaman 1st Class at Pensacola, Florida Naval Air Station as well as the U.S. Army in the Korean War as Corporal stationed with 5th Army at Camp Drake, Japan.
On January 17, 1954 Vern married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Blizzard and resided in Lansing, Michigan. They have 2 children, David (Colleen Gillespie) Chicago, Illinois and Jay (Amy) Varney of Chowchilla, California as well as 4 grandchildren Rachel, Sean, Travis and Olivia.
Vern was a store manager with Kroger, salesman for H.J. Heinz and Kraft Foods. He retired as a partner in a general insurance agency.
He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, traveling and having the children and grandchildren visit as well as motor homing throughout the United States for over 20 years. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 East Michigan, Lansing, Michigan, as well as 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1 at South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Dr., Lansing, Michigan. Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at South Church.
The family would like to give many thanks to all those at Sparrow, Sparrow West-Hospice and all those who cared for Vern.
