

William H. Higgins was born on January 8, 1928 in Portland, Michigan, the son of the late Clarence and Olive Higgins, and passed away Monday, November 30, 2015 at the age of 87. Bill served in the U.S. Airforce from 1946-1949 and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Capitol City Chapter #8. He retired from the Michigan State Police in 1992 after 19 years of service. Bill had a lifelong love of books. He was preceded in death by his parents; his devoted wife, Harriet Higgins; and sisters, Grace Hunt, Arlene Meade and Dorothy Lyon. Surviving to cherish his memory are his step-daughter, Cheryl (Steve) Strek; step-grandchildren, Travis and Samantha Strek; step-great grandchildren, Jayden and Madelyn; brother, Harold Higgins; brother-in-law, James (Nora) Trendel; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, followed by interment at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the funeral home and one-hour prior to the service on Thursday.
