

Dorothy (Dottie) Mae Carson passed away peacefully in a circle of love on July 26, 2014 in Indian Shores, Florida, after a short illness. She died as she approached her life with dignity and grace. Dorothy was born on April 22, 1931 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Edward Raymond and Helen Gilliland. After her mother’s early passing, Dorothy came to live in the Watervliet area where she met and married the late Eric Johnson. Dorothy and Eric enjoyed years together in both Pleasantdale and Latham where they raised their three children, Sandi Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kathy JohnsonTravis (Rick) of Clifton Park, NY and Rick Johnson (Nanette) of Guilderland, NY. Dorothy and Eric remained friends after their divorce until his death in 1999.
She and her second husband, Charles Kilmer made a home in the Guilderland area until their retirement in 1995 when they relocated to Indian Shores, Florida where Charles passed.
Dorothy was blessed to have met and married George Carson of Ontario Canada while living in Florida. Together they enjoyed 17 years of happiness and adventures. Splitting the year living between Florida and New Castle, Ontario where they built a home together. Dottie and George enjoyed many travels, cruising to Alaska, the Carribean, Europe, and through the Panama Canal to name a few.
Dottie never met a stranger she didn’t have a conversation with. She left everyone she came in contact with feeling happier for the encounter. Her quick wit and sense of humor brought many a laugh to those around her. She deeply loved her family and friends showing compassion and caring to all, putting them first always.
In addition to her husband and children, Dottie is survived by her step-son Shane Carson (Janet) and Step-daughters Leslie Walker (Ralph), Kelly Berard and Jacqueline Carr (Billy), grand children John J. Mancuso (Jasmine), Jessica Mancuso, Kaitlin Canabush, Adam Johnson and Grace Johnson as well as 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grand child in Canada, several nieces and nephews, many close friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the caring staff at Suncoast Hospice and the Florida Cancer Center (especially Nancy), Dr. Janicki and Dr. Regas as well as the many friends who sent cards and called to support Mom and George during her illness.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
