Flora Ballew, age 88, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025. Born Flora Bowman on August 13, 1937, in Climax, Kentucky, she was the fourth of eight children born to Dave Nelson Bowman and Magdalene Wilds, both of Jackson County, KY.
Flora graduated from Lexington High School in 1955 and soon after married the love of her life, Claude Daniel Ballew, on November 19, 1955. Claude, originally from McCaysville, Georgia, preceded her in death in 1999 after 43 years of marriage.
Together, Flora and Claude raised five children: Bruce Ballew (deceased 2023), Sherrie Schafer, David Ballew (deceased 1997), Sheila Roose, and Kathy Yarbrough. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Flora found her greatest joy in her family. She is survived by her daughters Sherrie, Sheila, and Kathy-all residing in Clearwater, Florida-as well as her brother Joseph Bowman of Spring Hill, FL, and her sister Lavada Gatliff of Mt. Vernon, KY.
Flora was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who will remember her southern warmth and kindness.
