He was born on July 5, 1934 in Trenton, New Jersey, to parents Samuel and Mary Savalli. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, and received a Bachelors Degree in Aerospace Engineering from NYU.
After graduating from college, he served in the Air Force in the rank of Captain. While he was not able to achieve his dream of flying for the Air Force, he was able to use his love of aircraft to work on the planes.
On New Years Eve of 1960, he met the love of his life, Doris Marcopoulos, at a New Years Eve party in New York. After a few months of dating, they decided to get married. Fred moved to the Florida panhandle to work for Republic Aviation, and Doris followed after their wedding on July 8, 1961.
Their first child, Marianne, was born in 1962. The small family moved to Japan, where Fred continued working for Republic. After 2 years, they moved back to the states, and had their son, Sebastian, in 1965. Soon thereafter, they moved to Burlington, Vermont, where Fred worked for General Electric. Daughters Julianne and Stelianne were born in 1966 and 1968. The family enjoyed Vermont winters, and Fred would make an ice skating rink in the backyard of their home.
In 1971, they moved to Clearwater, Florida, where in 1973 their fifth child, Lorianne, was born. Fred worked as a Logistics Engineering Manager for Honeywell until his retirement.
In 1980, Fred accepted a position with Honeywell and McDonnell Douglas aircraft, to service F-15 fighter planes in Saudi Arabia. The 3-year adventure allowed him to indulge his love of travel, as he was able to take his family on exciting vacations to Kenya, Switzerland and Italy.
In his retirement, he enjoyed visiting with his children and grandchildren, and taking Doris to lunch at their son Sebastian’s restaurant, Corned Beef Corner.
His heart was broken on April 8, 2009, when Doris was suddenly called to Heaven. He spent the remainder of his life mourning her passing. He would still give her cards on her birthday and their anniversary. He found happiness with his children and grandchildren, attending ball games, band and orchestra concerts and graduations.
He is survived by his children, Marianne Savalli Vanness (David) of Orlando, Florida; Sebastian Savalli, (Anna) of St. Petersburg, Florida; Julianne Savalli of Swansboro, North Carolina, and Stelianne Savalli and Lorianne Savalli of Clearwater. He is also survived by his grandchildren Grace, Ian and Lizzie Vanness, Sebastian Savalli and Taso and Maria Kappos.
