Horst Woyde
15 juillet 1929 – 16 février 2021
Horst Woyde, 91, of Seminole, Florida, passed away on February 16, 2021 after a battle with covid-pneumonia.
Horst was born on July 15, 1929 to Albert Woyde and Anna Louise Kohlmier Woyde in Berlin, Germany. He grew up in Berlin and Montevideo, Uruguay. He matriculated from the Universidad de Montevideo in Uruguay. In 1954, Horst fell in love with Maria Angela Pedemonte in Montevideo, Uruguay where they wed and shared a life of 67 years.
In 1960 he relocated permanently to the United States. Horst used his language skills by working as a translator for the Ford Motor Company, a position that led him to set up the Detroit Translation Bureau, which became one of Michigan's major advertising translation and copy writing agencies.
Horst's international background pulled him to Washington, D.C., where he joined the United States Information Agency, a dependency of the U.S. Department of State, as a writer, editor, translator and occasional reporter in their Office of International Information Programs. His career with the USIA spanned 12 years where he received several commendations.
Horst had a passion for adventure. He loved to travel, ski, play tennis, sailing his own boat across the open waters, and laughing with friends. Spending time with his family was his greatest treasure. He enjoyed sharing a glass of wine, eating traditional family meals, philosophical conversations. In his later years Horst reconnected with his first passion of writing. He wrote and published ‘The Berlin Blues’ a collection of short stories, and was near the end of completing ‘The War Father Legacy’, a novel.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Heinz Woyde, Gert Woyde, and his sister Rita Woyde Sturm. He was a devoted husband and leaves behind Maria Angela Woyde. His two daughters, Lydia Woyde Ging, m. Dennis; Karen Woyde Dunwody, m. Dean; Grandchildren, Kelley Ging Purcell, m. Trey; Dayna Ging Datta, m. Robin; Patrick Dunwody; Anna Dunwody, m. Jared Smoot; and eight great-grandchildren, Ioannis Tassopoulos (16); Lydia Tassopoulos (15); Neal Datta (9); Julian Datta (8); Anjoli Datta (8), Gabriel Datta (8); Scarlett Purcell (7); and Aurora Smoot (3).
Horst had an extensive family around the world and friendships that spanned the globe from his childhood. He was admired for being a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and friend.

To Opa, you have been so much more than a loving grandfather to me as you were also one of my dearest friends. I've cherished our weekly meals and conversations the past 5 years and always felt that when I was with you and Abuela I was home. I miss your smile, your hugs...I will forever be a better person because I had you in my life. Rest in peace, my dear Opa. I love you.

My Opa. I have so many treasured memories of my time with him. He was not one to sit still so we were always going and doing things when we visited. He would take us to the train station in DC and he collected small flags from around the world. Our special thing when I was younger was going to starving art exhibits. He bought me my first two oil paintings which I still have today. In more recent years we went out with Abuela to a fancy restaurant and had tar tar and great conversation. Conversation was always interesting with him as he has lived such a spirited life with many adventures. He was well read and cultured. So he could converse intelligently about most topics. He was and always will be be a wonderful grandfather and great grandfather. I love you. My Opa ❤

Dear Uncle. All I have are nice memories. With 17 years old I traveled to USA alone and you showed me Washington DC as nobody would have done it. I will cherish for life the wonderful moments we spent together with you and uncle Gert. In spite of distance we had a beautiful relationship. Unforgettable Christmas together with my parents Rita and Bert ,Omi and the whole family, singing and dancing. Wherever you are ,you are now reunited with those you missed so much lately. Your brothers and sister. In Spanish we say "vive la vida de tal suerte que vivo quedes tras la muerte " (live your life in such way that alive you stay after you die" )Thats what will happen. And don't worry , its on us, our generation (Karen ,Lydia Rick and me) to continue with the Woydes legacy and pass it on to our children. I promise to do so. RIP Uncle.

Memories, I have endless ones. He is my dad. I owe much of whom I am to him. He inspired me in ways no one else could or ever will. His love for writing produced many accomplishments, and gave us his book, The Berlin Blues, of which I have several copies to be gifted to my grandchildren. He made me quite proud in many different ways. I admired his determination to speak his mind. His analytical thinking lead to many long and priceless conversations which I will miss because they always left me feeling like I learned something new. He was cute. He was a sweet man as described by many who had met him briefly or knew him well. I was blessed to have him for 65 years. He will be with me forever. I love you, dad. ❤
