In high school, Joan met the love of her life, Thomas Johnson, they were married for 55 years until his passing. Early on in Joan’s adult life she worked as a key-punch operator in downtown Chicago. In her later years, she greatly enjoyed assisting with different activities at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights for over 40 years. In Joan’s free time she enjoyed cooking, baking, swimming, gardening (especially geraniums) and vacationing in Cable, Wisconsin and at her family farm in Scotts Hill, Tennessee. Some of Joan’s favorites were a good cup of coffee and dark chocolate.
The most important thing to Joan was her family. Her tight-knit family was her biggest source of joy. She is pre-ceded in death by her sister, Paulette as well as her nephew, Paul Sampson. She is survived by her children, Michael Johnson (Meredith) and Michele Bellafiore (Joe); 4 grandchildren, Anthony and Joseph Bellafiore and Morgan and Michael Johnson; 2 siblings, Gail Sampson and Thomas Lang; many nieces and nephews.
The family will be having a private service for Joan. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
