71, of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on August 24, 2020, due to long-term complications from kidney disease.
Born on June 16, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jack grew up in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, and attended Cardinal O’Hara High School. He was an accomplished basketball player throughout his youth and early adulthood. He attended the University of Alabama, and later graduated from St. Bernard’s College in Cullman, Alabama. Jack returned home to Philadelphia where he met his wife of thirty-seven years, Mary Dunigan McAleer. Jack’s career led him to the field of investment banking in which he made many friends across the country, and, particularly, in Philadelphia, New York, and Denver. While residing for a period in Denver, Jack and Mary welcomed the birth of their twin sons, Michael and Matthew, who, together with Mary, survive Jack. Upon returning to Philadelphia, Jack and his family enjoyed many happy years in the Berwyn community. He was a beloved coach to his sons’ basketball and baseball teams.
Jack loved all things Philly, particularly its sports teams. His love for Philly traveled with Jack to Indian Rocks Beach, where, in retirement, he enjoyed the beautiful beach and warm, sunny weather.
Jack was admired and loved for his quick wit, calm personality, and perseverance through all of the health challenges he faced. One of Jack’s special attributes was his closeness with many of his childhood friends. Once Jack met you, you became a dear friend for life. Jack will be sorely missed by his family and all of his friends.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Largo, Florida. Livestreaming will be available at: https://www.stjeromeonline.org/live-stream.html.
A future celebration of Jack’s life will be held in Philadelphia as soon as circumstances permit.
In lieu of flowers, Jack’s wish was for donations to be made to the National Kidney Foundation. A link to the donation page follows: https://team.kidney.org/campaign/JohnTMcAleer.
