John L. Sullivan Sr

He was the son of Charles and Corrine Hedstrom Sullivan. John served 32 years as a Police Officer in Calumet City, IL. retiring as Police Chief in 1988. He was a member of St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church, Calumet City American Legion, Fraternal Order of Police, Illinois Police Association and the Association of Police Chiefs. John served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by daughter Mary D Sullivan. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Rita Zandstra Sullivan of Largo whom he married May 20, 1950, sons Michael (Debbie) Sullivan of Whiting, IN, John L (Lisa) Sullivan of Largo, Thomas (Diana) Sullivan of Calumet City, IL, Timothy (Laura) Sullivan of Brandon, FL, daughters Kathleen (Patrick) McPolin of Orland Park, IL, Patricia (Robert) Mitchell of Hammond, IN, Maureen Mora of Marshall, IL and Jean (Michael) Ciesynski of Seattle, WA, brothers Richard (Lois) Sullivan of Warsaw, IN and Patrick (Judy) Sullivan of Lansing, IL, sister Mary Beemsterboer of Lynwood, IL, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. A funeral service will be 10:30am Monday Dec. 9th at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church, Clearwater. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital.
