Ken was born in Pennsylvania in 1947. His family then moved to Indian Rocks Beach. He had two other brothers Richard and Tommy. Growing up on the beach in the 50s was a fun place for a kid. He and the other kids would run down to the bridge and help crank open the old Indian Rocks bridge so boats could go up and down the intercoastal water way.
At largo high school he made a $50 bet that he could get a date with Audrey who turned out to be the love of his life. After graduating from Largo in 1964, Ken went to basic training for the Vietnam War. In 1967 Ken and Audrey married and Ken transferred to the army reserves to start a family. In 1979 he built their home in Seminole and started sun catch farm.
Ken worked for the town of Indian Rocks Beach where he started his engineering career. He then spent 15 years of his life with Howdeshell plumbing where he became the shop manager. In 1984 he became the operations manager for tropic-Kool. He was responsible for all phases of service and construction. He eventually purchased the business in 1994.
His wife’s passion was horses and he brought that passion to their home and he supported that passion 100%. In 2016 Audrey passed away but Ken kept her love for horses alive by keeping the barn working.
Ken was a devoted husband, father, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He was generous to a fault. After selling tropic-Kool in 2017 it was finally time for him to relax. He did so by going to concerts with his niece and going lunch and dinners with friends and family. He played golf for a while but soon that was too difficult for him so he switched to watching it on tv.
Ken developed COPD and also had a heart attack and when that happened our journey of helping him navigate medical issues began. He kept a positive attitude through it all. He tried many different procedures and medications to slow down the difficulties of his medical issues but as we know they didn’t work. His sister in law’s, niece, and great niece were available for every trip to the doctors or to help him with any of his needs.
Towards the end of his life his one want was for him to walk his great niece down the aisle which he achieved last April.
Ken is survived by his son David of Seminole as well as many other family members. He was loved dearly and has left his mark on all who knew him and respected him.
God bless you ken and thanks for all the wonderful memories will all share and cherish.
A memorial service for Kenneth will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774, followed by a reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
