Louis Gregor Sr. of Largo passed away peacefully on Monday, June 21, 2021. He was 89 years old. Louis was born in Sopron, Hungary to the late Lajos and Margit Gregorencsics. In 1956 Louis emigrated to the United States with his family and settled in Queens New York. Along with his family he owned and operated Turul Bookbindery in Queens and then Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey until 1985 when he opened Gregor’s Marine in Largo, Florida where he and his family relocated to. Louis served in the Hungarian Army and transported medical aid to the front during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Louis was no stranger to serving the community, he was a Free Mason and a Shriner, but truly found his calling as a longtime member of Rotary International, having first joined the Jefferson Township Rotary in 1975, serving as President , and Governors Representative. Upon relocating to Florida, Louis' involvement with Rotary did not stop as he was one of founders of the Indian Rocks Beach Rotary Club. Louis was a loyal parishioner of St. Jerome Church in Largo. Louis was a Ham Radio operator and avid bowler for decades prior to focusing on developing his marina business. Always outgoing, charming and funny, if you knew him, you loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maria, two children Louis Jr. and his wife, daughter Maria and her husband. In addition, grandchildren Brianne and Blair and her husband and Louis’s great grandchild, Reece.
Services for Louis will be a Holy Mass to be held on July 9th at St. Jerome Church in Largo at 10:30am followed by a Memorial Service and gathering at the Serenity Funeral Home . In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to The Rotary Foundation, my.rotary.org . - Annual Fund.
