

Paul Frederick Downing JR 79, of Largo, Florida, passed away on May 26, 2024, after a brave but short battle with Melanoma cancer. Paul was born on February 17, 1945, to the parents of Paul Frederick Downing Sr and Mary Driscoll of Malden, Massachusetts. Paul attended Malden Catholic High School, upon completion of High School, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as an Aircraft Mechanic. Upon completion of his service to his country, Paul went to work for Boeing Aerospace in Seattle, Washington where he worked on Boeing’s 747 aircraft. While visiting his parents in Clearwater, Florida Paul decided to relocate to Florida. Upon relocating to Clearwater, he eventually met his future wife in a minor traffic accident. Paul enjoyed a long career with General Telephone & Electronic Corporation where he worked as a Lineman and Supervisor for Coin Phones for the Southeast until his retirement. Paul also enjoyed a post-retirement career with Lowe’s where he worked in the tools department. Paul was a devoted Catholic and a longtime member of the Parish of St Jerome’s Catholic Church of Largo.
Paul was a loving father to three children, Brian, Lisa and P.J. Paul was an active parent that always made time to attend his children’s activities such as Football, Softball, Baseball, Soccer, Dance, and Band.
Paul was a loving Sibling, Husband, Companion, Friend, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. Paul was preceded in death by his Parents Paul & Mary Downing, Wife Patricia, Brother Joe, Sisters Louise and Peggy. Paul is survived by his Brother Tom (Sherry) Downing, Companion Clare Kaminski, Son Brian (Beth) Downing, Daughter Lisa (Brian) Wolf, Son Paul (Chastity) Downing, Grandson Randy Philips, Granddaughter Brittany (Chad) Vidak, Grandson, Zachary (Megan) McDurfee, Grandson Nick Wolf, and his four Great Grandchildren Carson Reyes, Landon Vidak, Madelynn Vidak, and Scarlett McDurfee.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 29, 2024, at 11:00 am at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL. A Committal Service will take place on July 1, 2024, at 11am at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Boulevard North, St Petersburg, Fl.
