Dr. Richard Joseph Campanile, 79, of Largo, FL, passed away on Wednesday, June 25th, 2025. He married his best friend, Bonnie Campanile, over 55 years ago. They spent every one of them teaching those around them how to practice unconditional love and acceptance by example. He further shared his great compassion and deep affection by becoming a devoted father, mentor, and friend to his two children, Kim Redeker and Carri Renaud.
Richard was a beloved family physician, caring for patients in the St. Petersburg and Seminole area for nearly 30 years. While medicine was a foundational interest of his and he was deeply devoted to taking care of others, he had a brilliant mind and an avid love of learning and held many passions. These included cooking for his family, listening to music, reading, and researching medical trends and technology (along with anything and everything else that caught his interest). But home was truly where his heart resided, and his greatest times of joy came when he was sharing dinners with his family and friends, playing games with his granddaughter, and throwing toys to his (very energetic) dog.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, his daughters Kim and Carri, his cherished grandchildren, Brianna, Ethan and Elle, and his dear sister Carol Smith. His family, friends, and all who had the great fortune to know him will miss his big heart, joyful presence, and wonderful sense of humor. We celebrate his life every day, just as he did. And as a life-long sci-fi fan, his hope for us all would be that we “live long and prosper.”
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to one of the following organizations:
