Mr. Burnett was born on September 9, 1935 in South Shore, Kentucky to Lola Boggs Burnett & Finis Burnett. Growing up in a rural community, he was virtually self-educated and used his passion for reading to graduate high school with honors. Following high school, Robert served in the Air Force and after being Honorably Discharged, he attended Michigan State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging Engineering. He was married to Bernice Pangborn Burnett on May 18, 1957, and the couple enjoyed 65 years of marriage together.
Robert, or Bob to his friends, had a highly successful 40-year career in the Packaging Engineering field, working for major corporations such as STP, Xerox, and Bristol Myers Squibb. After retiring, he spent ten years working for the Belleair Bluffs Publix where he enjoyed interacting with his community. He had a passion for nature- particularly for birds and the beach- and in his later years became an avid, accomplished bike rider.
He is survived by his wife, his children, Terry Burnett and Cheryl Burnett Ayscue, his grandchildren Patrick Ayscue and Gregory Ayscue, and his sisters Betty Burnett Howerton, Laura Burnett Cooper, and Mary Burnett Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, on August 6th, 2022 at Serenity Funeral Home in Largo, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Suncoast Hospice.
