It's been 1 year and its hard to believe how fast time fly's. I am glad for the time we were able to spend together. When I pull out the old 8mm movie camera You can truly see how dad loved his kids.

It's so hard to believe that it has been almost one year since you passed away. It still is not easy without you, I think about you daily. I continue to stay close with Mama Patti like I promised you I would do Dad. Rusty & I are very close & keep in touch often. Rest in peace Daddy! I love you so much.

Life is too short. Especially for giving people like Roger Griffin. He was my father-in-law. Though I spent more time on the phone with him than I did in person, I would have loved to have spent years getting to know the man better. He was a very stand up man. He would swallow his pride and take on the pain of silence rather than speak ill of anyone. Even when he should have. I know that his children were a point of pride and his wife, Patty, was the love of his life. I also know you could spend hours talking to the man and never get bored or anxious. He was just that easy and interesting to talk to. Sherry and Russ held such a place in his heart that the stoic man would come to the edge of voice cracking emotion when he would talk about them. Roger was the kind of man that gave it his all. And in the end, his all is what took him. But his love and compassion remains in everyone he touched. He touched all who met him with his kindness, compassion and heart felt genuine concern for those around. That is the man I knew. Humble to the end. I know in my heart that God holds a special place in heaven for the humble men like Roger. I know now that life's toils are over for him that he is waiting for the love of his life, smiling, and saying, â€œIt won't be long now.â€

Grandpa Roger, 
You will be missed so much. I know our time was limited together and we didn't have the opportunity to vist too much, but that didn't make me love you any less. You and Grandma Pat have always been good to me and I will always love you both. My deepest sympathy goes out to all who knew, and loved my grandpa Roger Griffin.

Grandpa you will be forever missed.  I love you with all my heart and I am so proud to have a grandfather like you. You brought me so many great memories as a child. Coming to your house when i was little was my most favorite part of coming to Florida and spending the day in swimming pool with and grandma. You will always be with me.

Roger, if there ever was a true man you were him. You were probably one of the best things that ever happened to my sister(PAT) ! You were good to her and more important you were good FOR her and for these two reasons you've always had and forever will have my deepest thanks and respect !  Thanks brother,mike

Truly Roger was a great man, boy did he like the grocery business. His first encounter with the grocery business was with Publix where he made it up to 3rd man (in charge of the entire store). From there he went to work with "Little General" food stores.He quickly rose up the ladder with the company as they liked his no nonsense attitude and outstanding work ethic. As a child I remember riding along in his car as we would go from store to store, visiting all of the stores that he managed. I do remember him speaking of a new company that was coming up and proved to be fierce competition for his (at that time) current employer. The one thing that Roger missed most of all was actually having his hands on all of the products and talking to the people that would come into his store. You see he was a regional manager and really missed the grocery business, oh sure he was good at managing everyone but somehow had lost himself when he was not able to make the winning display's or keep a store in tip top shape. 
After much consideration he decided to join the other team "7-11" as they promised him his own store. He loved the opportunity to express his creativity by creating some of the best displays in the 7-11 corporation.
He sure found a home with 7-11 because that's exactly where he stayed until he retired.
That being said I can say I'm my fathers son as I painstakingly make sure all of my displays are "Roger Griffin" approved and perfect.
Funerals do a few things and they are not all sad & depressing, they bring families back together in a world that seems to distract one from doing so. They also remind us that life is somewhat finite ...in other words, you need to make time to bond & connect with loved ones.
In closing, this has been a short glimpse into my thoughts on Roger & I would love to share more with any of you at our get together this Saturday.

Looking at the photos of our family was so hard. You sometimes ask why & how could such a wonderful man as my Father leave this earth so soon. Dad I light this candle to let you know I will never ever forget you. I have the memories & the pictures to remind me of you forever. I am Rogers older daughter Sherry L. Stevenson from Fairbanks, Alaska. My Father was the most wonderful Father a girl could ask for. My Father never complained about anything or anyone. Dad never judged anyone & was the kindess man I know, Dad was perfect to me. Dad & I were very close since I was a little girl. You could say I was my Daddy's little girl & was very proud to be his little girl. I am very sad to see my Father go & he will be missed so much. 
My Father survives the most wonderful woman my Fathers wife Patti my step Mother, she has been the back bone to our family for over 23 years now. Family always has been number one to Patti, she has always been there for my son's Justin & Jacob Tortorella & I, she would talk to us anytime for however long we need to talk. Dad & Patti never once forgot mine & my son's Justin & Jacob Tortorella's & birthday's or any special occasion. Patti even remembering my new husband David A. Stevenson when I married him three years, she'd send him cards & gifts as well. Patti you are an amazing women & so strong. I am so sorry for the loss of your husband my Father. I will never forget you Patti you will always be apart of our family always. You are in my prayers Patti. 
I feel like a part of me is missing now that my Father is gone, I am trying to deal with it way up here in Alaska, but I am not doing to good with it. How do you say good bye to such a remarkable man like my Father. I will miss you Daddy, I love you so much. I will see you some day in heaven.
