

Command Sgt Major Ancel (Bill) Downey Jr. passed away on October 21, 2016. He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on October 1, 1931 to Ancel Downey Sr. and Mamie Massie who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, KumCha, a son Steve and two daughters Cathy Bryant (Hulen) and Aimee Jacobson (Justin). He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Jennifer Loggins (Rick), Amanda Downey, Andrew Downey, and Gabriel, Eden and Esther Jacobson and one great grandson, Harper Loggins. He has three sisters, Rozann Napier, Barbara Fultz and Vicky Neal from Ohio. His oldest sister, Hazel Selby passed away in 1991.
Bill joined the Army as soon as he was eligible and served honorably for 23 years. His service included tours in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded several medals including the silver star, the bronze star and the air service medal. He was the ultimate patriot. He was also an advocate for animals. He loved his dogs unconditionally and wanted to protect all of God's creatures.
Bill moved to Florida in 1998 where he and KC took up residency at the Tides Beach Club where he soon became known as "The Mayor of the Tides." His cabana opened every day at 5:00 and everyone was welcome to stop by for good food, good conversation and beautiful sunsets. Bill's cabana was a place where friendships were formed and have and will continue throughout the years. Bill wore many hats throughout his lifetime: husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. All will be missed. A funeral service will be 11:00am Wed. October 26 at the First Christian Church of Seminole, 13272 Park Blvd. Seminole, Fl. 33776. Visitation will be an hour prior from 10-11 at the church.
