William A. Contes, 61, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Bill was born in Steubenville, Ohio on July 28, 1963. He lived in Aurora, Ohio for 30 years before relocating to Florida in 2021.
Bill’s family was his treasure. He leaves Dawn, his devoted wife of 33 years; cherished sons, Evan of Chicago, John of Dallas, and Nicholas of Bradenton. Also surviving is his sister, Anna Maria (John) Stepanovich, father-in-law John (Cathy) Fitzgerald; brother-in-law, Tim (Heather) Fitzgerald; and nephews and nieces: George (Kate) Stepanovich, Deanna (Jesse) Meador, Christina (Sam) Tripodis, Mackenzie, Zachary, and Garrett Fitzgerald.
He is predeceased by his mother, Donna Contes and his father, Nick Contes.
Known to his family and dear friends as “Billy”, he had a charming and magnetic personality. His eyes twinkled when he smiled, and he had a gift for making people feel at ease. His laugh was contagious. He never took himself too seriously, instead, he chose to see the humor in life. Bill never met a stranger; striking up a long conversation with someone whom he just met was one of his many talents.
His joy in life was his family and spending time with them was his highest priority. His love and loyalty to them had no limits. He was a dedicated son, brother, and uncle. Bill was acknowledged for his many accomplishments, but to him, the greatest was being Dawn’s husband and the father of his beloved sons, Evan, John, and Nicholas.
Bill was proud of his Greek Orthodox faith and the traditions of the Church that were instilled in him at Holy Trinity in Steubenville, Ohio. His childhood friends at Holy Trinity remained best friends throughout his life. When Bill and Dawn moved to Florida, their new neighbors in the Lakewood Ranch Community quickly became great friends.
His work ethic and desire to excel led to over 35 years as a successful sales manager in the paper manufacturing and packaging industry.
May his memory be eternal.
“They whom we love and lose are no longer where they were before. They are now wherever we are.” St. John Chrysostom.
