He was born on November 15, 1933 in Bulacan, Philippines to Nicolas Delos Santos and Carmelita Delos Santos and was the oldest brother of eight siblings, Benigo Delos Santos, Erlinda S. Tan, Susan Delos Santos, Francisco Delos Santos, Cecilia LaBell, Nicolas Delos Santos Jr., Christina Mercado, and Carmencita Beskal.
While in the Philippines, he earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1964 from the Manila Central University. With is new degree in hand, he left the Philippines to seek out his own future in the United States. He did his residency at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, California. Shortly after, he found his soulmate, partner, and love of his life at age 34, Maria, and married in San Francisco. He became a father of three the first was Christine, followed by Michelle, and finally, Albert.
He worked at several hospitals throughout California, including UCLA and Kaiser Permanente, where he stayed until his retirement. After his retirement, he remained active with his medical studies. He loved to learn about medicine and continued his passion for studying holistic remedies well into retirement. He was eager and willing to share any information and knowledge to help others.
He had immersed love for all of God's creatures. He made sure every animal he encountered had something to eat. He loved in particular his many dogs. His first pets were Fuzzy, the rabbit, and Chestnut, the hamster. These were the first two but by no means the last. He was thrilled when he became a "dog grandpa." His beloved dogs were the light of his life. He was always so happy spending time with them, especially Shelia. They had a unique bond not found often. Amongst his many beloved dogs’ names were Sasha, Diva, Monty, Kimo, Francesca, Roxy, Chauncey, Lucas, Duke, Mona, Lily, Rocky, Spencer, Louie, Felix, Molly, Chelsey, Polly, Charlie Tilly, and Molly and Baily.
People were always important to him from the beginning. Even though initially in his younger years he was an introvert, but and as years progressed, he became more opened and loved to converse with everyone he met. His true intention in life was to see other people grow and become a better version of themselves. Interacting with other people and sharing his knowledge brought joy, which seemed to keep him young. He had a kind and generous nature, which endeared him in the hearts of many.
He met every challenge with strength, dignity and unwavering patience. One of the things our family will hold dear is that our family had the gift of time with him-a luxury that has lasted nowhere near long enough for those that knew him and loved him.
