He was born in North Hollywood, CA on November 18, 1955, to Isabel Marilyn (Isaacson) Bialos and Edward Bernard Bialos. In 1973 he graduated from Canoga Park High School and followed his best friend to Santa Cruz, where he briefly lived before spending time in San Francisco and Japan, eventually making a permanent return to Los Angeles. In 1984, he married Karen (Schulman) Bialos, with whom he had one daughter.
A prolific artist, Barry spent years engaging in photography, writing and self-publishing books of poetry, and painting in black ink, taking inspiration from the process of Suiboku-ga. He was also an autodidact in the field of audio engineering, and returned to school in his early forties to supplement his studies. At Glendale Community College he befriended fellow student David Meza, with whom he partnered to launch Duo Audio; this laid the foundation for Barry’s eventual work as a contractor with Cometa, Inc. in developing a new mixer, the Cometa M2.
He was a contrarian with a wide vocabulary, an audiophile who believed music should be heard in mono, and had an enormous appetite for sushi and roast duck. A resourceful tinkerer who delighted in problem solving, he was fascinated by new technology but largely resisted it in his personal life. He spent years studying Zen Buddhism but was proud of his Russian Jewish heritage and early in his adult life began using his original family name, Bialostotzky, where possible. He found a great deal of pleasure in open, green space, and he was an avid reader who relished writers like Walter Mosley and Yukio Mishima but had a parallel penchant for tabloids and celebrity gossip.
Barry is preceded in death by his mother, Isabel, and his beloved family dog, Sandy. He is survived by his father, Edward, his younger brother, Alan, and his daughter, China.
He was cremated and requested to be laid to rest alongside his mother. A graveside service will be held on November 15, 2024 at 2:00 pm at King David Memorial Cemetery, 2697 E. Eldorado Ln., Las Vegas, NV.
