After graduating from Overbrook High School in 1965, Barry went into the electronics business with what became known as R & S Distributing Company, eventually becoming one of the top 5 distributors of electronics on the East Coast. He then moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where he raised a family. His business became so successful that he was able to retire at the age of 40. He worked in real estate for a time, then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1996.
In his retirement in Las Vegas, he enjoyed buying and selling coins and playing poker. His love for Philadelphia sports teams didn’t end with his move across the country. He was a passionate fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and was in attendance for 3 Super Bowls, witnessing two victories as well as sneaking into Franklin Field to witness the 1960 championship win over the Green Bay Packers. He equally loved the Villanova Wildcats, and was at all 3 national championships. He was especially proud to be in attendance with his sons for many of these exciting games.
Barry is survived by three sons, Glenn (Katie) Furman of Marlton, New Jersey, Mike Furman of Arlington, Virginia, and Zach Kolos-Furman of Boca Raton, Florida, two grandchildren, Ryan and Courtney, and his partner, Helen Edell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Jerry and sister Robyn.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 3, at 11:00 AM at Shalom Memorial Park, 3573 Pine Road, Huntingdon Valley 19006. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life starting at 2 PM at the home of Glenn and Katie Furman, 14 Hawk Lane, Marlton, NJ 08053.
