Betty Marie “Shelle” Adams McIntyre, 77, of Henderson, Nevada passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 following a brief illness. Betty was born December 12, 1944 to Leo and Corinne Adams of Justin, Texas. She spent her early years in small town Texas and after attending college, began a career in the stock brokerage business in Dallas. But it wasn’t long until she abandoned the business world to follow her true calling as an entertainer.
In the early 1970’s, Betty took the professional name Shelle Adams, and she was known to most of her friends as Shelle thereafter. She spent that decade performing in New York City, Las Vegas, and many other places across the country, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Shelle made her way back to the spotlights of Las Vegas in 1980, where she settled permanently.
Shelle sang and played piano at several locations around Las Vegas for about 30 years, including long stints at the MGM Grand Hotel, Union Plaza (Center Stage), and Harrah’s (Claudine’s Restaurant), where she always had large and loyal followings. She was a fixture around the strip and everyone in town knew and loved her.
While at the Plaza, Shelle met the love of her life, Michael McIntyre. They enjoyed 34 years of wedded bliss until his death in September 2019. Shelle always loved dogs, especially cocker spaniels, which she bred and raised for almost 50 years, including several AKC champions. She was an active member of the Cocker Spaniel Club of Las Vegas for many years.
Following their retirement, Shelle and Michael moved to Henderson, where they continued raising their cocker “babies,” entertained friends, and thoroughly enjoyed their post-work lives. They became members of New Song Church, where they made several important and lasting friendships. Shelle periodically performed there and shared her musical talents with other groups after retirement as well.
Shelle is survived by her sister Jeannine Eaton and her husband Roy of Decatur, Texas; nephews Jeff Eaton and his wife Terry of Arlington, Texas, Barry Eaton and his wife Kelly of Justin, Texas, and Brian Eaton and his wife Felecia of Fort Worth, Texas; stepson Mike McIntyre and his spouse Bill Sander of Grass Valley, California; and stepdaughter Julia Quiroz and her husband Gonzalo of Bakersfield, California; and her cockers Angel and Gracie. She is also survived by several other relatives, including in-laws, cousins, and great nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends in the Las Vegas/Henderson area and beyond.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm, Friday November 4 at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave, Las Vegas NV 89123. Services will be at 10 am Saturday, November 5 at New Song Church, 1291 Cornet St., Henderson, NV 89052. Memorials may be sent to New Song Church or Take the Lead Foundation (cocker services) - takethelead.org.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.palmeastern.com for the McIntyre family.
