Today, we gather with full hearts to honor the life and legacy of Carrie Cille Johnson. Carrie was born on April 23, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, to her loving parents, Mattie Bradley Riley and Robert Riley. She grew up in Los Angeles alongside her siblings.
Carrie graduated from George Washington High School, and shortly after, on July 8, 1967, she united in Holy Matrimony with Lee Arthur Johnson. Together, they built a home filled with strength, faith, and devotion. Carrie continued her education while working for McDonnell Douglas, earning her associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. She was incredibly smart and driven, a woman who achieved everything she set her mind to, all while carrying herself with unmatched grace and beauty.
In their loving union, Carrie and Lee welcomed three children, Brian Darrell Johnson and Crystal Lashawn Johnson, and Cynthia Renee Scott..
In July of 1996, Carrie and Lee began a new chapter in Henderson, Nevada, just outside of Las Vegas. They joined the Second Baptist Church of Las Vegas and later became devoted members of Remnant Ministries.
On November 13th, Carrie transitioned peacefully. She was welcomed by her Lord and Savior. While our hearts feel the weight of her absence, we take comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her loved ones.
Carrie leaves behind a legacy that will forever live in the hearts of her family. This is not goodbye, it is simply “see you later.” She is survived by her daughters Cynthia Scott and Carla Johnson, and her two son in laws Rickey Scott and Daniel Childs SR. Her grandchildren Katrina Carpenter, Resheda Scott, Rickey Scott Jr., Daniel Johnson (DJ), Danielle Childs, and Daniel Childs Jr., and her great-grandchildren Zayla Scott and Elijah Johnson. She is also remembered with love by her older sister Maryanne Johnson of Ringgold, Louisiana, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who cherished her deeply.
A special and heartfelt thank-you goes to her niece Teresa Riley, whose love, care, and dedication, especially in Carrie’s final days meant more to our family than words can express. Your compassion brought comfort not only to Carrie, but to all of us.
Rest peacefully, Carrie. We will love you forever, and we will see you again.
