

Cecil Edward Dyer, Jr., 70, of Henderson, passed away October 20, 2011. He was retired military and law enforcement. Born April 15, 1941, in Madisonville, Tenn., he was a 22 year Nevada resident. Cecil served for close to 30 years in the U.S. Army and completed three tours in Vietnam. During his time in the military he earned numerous awards, including the Purple Heart. Following his retirement from the military, he served for 16 years with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and mentor. He touched many lives over the years and made an everlasting impact on those lives. He will always be loved, he will be greatly missed, and he will never be forgotten. Cecil was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Martin Dyer; and his mother, Helen Marie Dyer. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Monika Dyer; daughters Kuwanna Dyer Pietras, of Calgary, and Shereena Dyer, of Oregon; son-in-law Jeff Pietras, of Calgary; granddaughter Abby Pietras; sisters Princess Mayott, of Virginia, Adean Wells-King, of Maryland; brother John Dyer, of Maryland; and brother-in-law McClain Mayott, of Virginia. Viewing will be at 2 p.m. and memorial service at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. He will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
