Cheryl Christine Fischer was born September 16,1952 in Los Angeles, California to Abraham and Christine Abdelnour and her 3-year-old brother Johnny. It was a simple, happy time to grow up, and she was surrounded by a close, loving family. Not only did she have her mother, father, and big brother, but right next door lived her grandmother Situe Rose, her Auntie Eva and Uncle Nick, and three cousins Richie, Julie and Ronnie. Those early years were filled with wonderful memories and stories—many of which she shared and cherished throughout her life.
When she was eight years old, the family moved to the suburbs of Alhambra, a quiet and easy place for children to thrive. Just a few months after settling in, her baby sister Charleen was born. The family remained in Alhambra for the rest of her childhood and teenage years.
She attended Alhambra High School where she twirled the baton as a majorette and was a prominent student council leader. She graduated in 1970. Afterwards, she continued her education at Cal State Los Angeles, where she earned her bachelor’s degree and met her husband Bob, when one of them cheated off the other, though they never agreed who. Bob and Cheryl were married on July 24, 1976, at St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, in Los Angeles.
In 1984, their daughter Erin was born, and a couple years later, Bob, Cheryl and Erin moved to the city of La Verne, where they became great friends with their neighbors. Bob’s niece Monica lived with them for a few years, and Cheryl and Monica formed a lasting bond. They also opened their home, to a friend, Melissa, who was like a daughter to them.
Throughout her life, Cheryl gained many friends that she continued to speak with at least once a week, some for 60+ years. She worked as a realtor, where her people skills really shined. Everywhere she went she made a friend and never forgot a name.
When Erin moved to Las Vegas, and got married, Cheryl and Bob followed. They joined St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church and made a whole new community of friends.
Cheryl loved volunteering for the Greek Food Festival and even won a grape leave cooking contest. She was known for her excellent Lebanese cooking, and in her younger years would gather all her cousins together to bake cookies. She loved to sew clothing and quilts, and crochet.
Just before Bob passed away, he and Cheryl moved two doors down from Erin and her husband, John, and their 2 little girls, Danika and Dakota, so that Cheryl could be her favorite title, Situe, to her 2 granddaughters, every day. She spent her last day, baking and playing with them.
Cheryl was loved by so many people and will be deeply missed by all those that she touched. She passed peacefully on December 10, 2025.
