Beloved father, husband, son, brother, physician, and tennis partner Colby Phillips Young, 56 years old, passed away on October 27th, 2025, in Las Vegas, NV. He is survived by his wife Deana, children Ashley and Colby Junior, and his parents Gilbert and Joyce. He is preceded in death by his brother Khary.
Colby was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1969 to Joyce Phillips Young and Gilbert Young. He attended Mercy Montessori, and St. Xavier in Cincinnati, Northwestern University where he received his bachelors in Political Science, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, completed his surgery internship at the Cleveland Clinic, trained in Orthopedic Surgery at King/Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, and culminated his medical training at The Indiana Hand Center with a fellowship in Hand Surgery. He also received an MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After working at The Bronstein Hand Center, he founded Hand Surgery Specialists of Nevada in 2006, which has grown to the largest Orthopedic Hand Surgery practice in Nevada.
Colby was a committed Buckeye and die-hard Bengals fan. They were long-standing loves that were joined by his rekindled love of tennis, both watching professional tennis and playing club tennis. His love of learning expanded to barbecue, brisket was a favorite, bourbons, coffee-it can taste like grape soda, fountain pens, and travel. Walking neighborhoods in new places provided a different perspective while allowing him to slow down and be present in the moment. And traveling with the family was always a highlight every year.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, December 6th, at Palm Southwest Mortuary, with a reception to follow at 10 am. All are welcome to come and celebrate Colby’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the UMC Foundation Colby Young Memorial Fund for Graduate Medical Education or to the Inspiring Children Foundation, supporting mental health and aspiring tennis players through the Marty Hennessy Fund.
