Cynthia Pleasant Vanderhorst was born in the heart of Detroit, Michigan, on April 6, 1955, to the late Susan and Arthur Pleasant. She was a cherished sister to Benjamin, Susan, Dorcas, Martha, Arthur Jr., Patricia, Eric, and Catherine. Cynthia was predeceased by three of her beloved siblings, but she carried the love and memory of her family with her always.
A proud graduate of Cass Technical High School, Cynthia started her career at Chrysler before making her way to San Jose, California. It was there that she met Damon; they married in 1980 and shared 45 years of laughter and adventure together.
Cynthia was an extraordinary mother, a loving wife, and a devoted sister and friend. She called her daughters Dana and Dyani her “bunnies,” a term that reflected the warmth and tenderness with which she cared for them. She found joy in traveling, especially on her sister’s trips, and could often be found immersed in a good book, enjoying a movie with popcorn, or singing and dancing. No matter the occasion, she had an effortless elegance and impeccable style, with a unique way of making each moment feel special.
Despite the challenges of Alzheimer’s, Cynthia’s spirit never wavered. Before her passing, she expressed a heartfelt wish that a cure be found so that no one else would suffer. In honor of her wish, we encourage donations to Alzheimer’s research, continuing her legacy of compassion and hope for a brighter future (https://www.alz.org/get-involved-now/donate).
Cynthia’s radiant smile, boundless love, and unwavering strength will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind her husband, Damon; daughters Dana and Dyani; sons Chris and Sam; grandsons Cole and Clayton; and caregiver Valerie, along with a host of family and friends who were blessed by her presence.
Cynthia peacefully surrendered to God’s will on August 8, 2025, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A memorial service for Cynthia will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at King David Memorial Chapel & Cemetery, 2697 E Eldorado Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89120, followed by a reception from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
