David Eugene Schuhrke, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2015. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Marie, along with daughters Cheryl, Kathy, Janet, and son Randy. He is also survived by his brothers Wesley, Gordon, and sister Bonnie. Born April 21, 1932 in Belfield, North Dakota to Schley and Rose Schuhrke, Dave was known as "Sonny" throughout his early years. He often reminisced with great affection about the simple pleasures of his childhood and formative years which he spent fishing, hunting and exploring the countryside. In 1951, he married Marie Fritz. The young newlyweds moved to Yakima, Washington in 1953, where their first child was born. Not long thereafter California beckoned, and it was here the remaining three children arrived, and all were raised. While in California, Dave managed an electronics manufacturing production line for TRW Instruments, and later purchased and operated his own ice cream parlor. In 1977, with their children grown, Dave and Marie relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he began a new career as a poker dealer at the original MGM Grand Hotel. Later Dave took on "temporary" work to help out at his son's budding alarm company. Something more than 20 years later, he finally retired in his late 70's. Throughout his years in Las Vegas and into retirement, Dave's favorite pastimes and activities included playing cribbage and pinochle, golfing, casino outings, and regular coffee mornings with friends at Panera Bread. He also very much looked forward to his annual trips home to North Dakota in the fall for pheasant and grouse hunting, along with plenty of card games with family. The following services will be held at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas: a visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, from 4:00 to 7:00pm; a memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 8, at 11:30am. Following interment, light refreshments will be served. Throughout his life, Dave had a special ability to easily make friends wherever he went. Those who knew him share a common sentiment: he made them laugh and always left them smiling. He will be deeply missed by family and the many friends he made along the way. Arrangements under the direction of Palm Eastern Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
