Dennis C. Mackin, 72, a Las Vegas resident since 2000, passed away Feb. 5, 2011. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., June 18, 1938, Dennis served his community as a police officer with the New York City Police Department for 23 years before his retirement. He was a gifted athlete, receiving a football scholarship to attend college in Boston and also playing in the NYPD league. Dennis attended church regularly at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Henderson. He is survived by his loving wife, of 49 years, Mary Mackin; sons, Dennis Sean Mackin of Kingston, N.Y., and John Kevin (Wendy-Joy) Mackin of Las Vegas; granddaughter, Tabitha-Joy Mackin; grandson, John David Mackin both of Las Vegas; and sister, Maureen M. Ulrich of Garden City, N.Y. Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, John H. Mackin. A visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, all at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
