Derrick was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on February 26, 1954 to Dorrit and Reginald Davies. He was raised in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario until he was 14. At that time his family (mother, father and sister, Marianne) moved to Florida with a short stop in the Bahamas. He graduated from Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg. Derrick spent four years in the US Army and later re-enlisted into the US Air Force, from where he retired in 1997. Derrick was presently employed by the FAA. Derrick married in 1992 to Eileen (Coghlan) of Kings Park, New York. He and Eileen have two children, Michael (wife Breanna and daughter Charlotte) and Kristin (fiancé Jason and daughter Lauren). Derrick is also survived by his sister Marianne, her husband Patrick and children and grandchildren. Derrick and Eileen's travels took them from South Carolina to Korea to Las Vegas to Alaska, having returned recently to Las Vegas.
