Dora was born on August 19, 1933, in Poland, to Marcus and Esther Fortgang. She is predeceased by her parents and Edward, her beloved husband of over 65 years, who passed away in 2020. She is survived by her son, Allen Kac of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Sharon Berry (John) of Dudley, MA; four grandchildren, Elisabeth Kac of Las Vegas, David Berry, Michelle Berry, and Michael Berry (Nicole) of Dudley; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Leo of Dudley; and sister, Ruti Kapelner (Juda) of Israel.
Dora was a Holocaust Survivor, surviving Europe through clever courage, fierce perseverance, and faith. She and Edward participated in the early days of the birth and growth of the State of Israel, and worked very hard, as immigrants, succeeding to build a new life in America, enabling them to support and raise a wonderful family.
Dora was caring, loving, and fully devoted to her family. She taught her family Jewish values and traditions as well as “street smarts” to overcome the many obstacles they may encounter in life. She always had positive words and a smile when good things happened. She was always there to support and lift us up during hard times and was always there when needed. Her grandchildren always looked forward to going to “Grammy's House” to receive lots of love and delicious food. She acquired so many friends wherever she went.
Dora retired at the age of 77, running the post office at Nichols College in Massachusetts. The students and staff loved her so much that they really did not want to her to retire. Students often came to her for empathy and advice, treating her like a second mom. No one had a bad word to say about her. Dora and Edward found Las Vegas as a fun place to retire.
Our hearts are heavy, but the positive memories of her are endless. She will be terribly missed by her family and many friends. A graveside service for Dora will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at King David Cemetery, 2697 E. Eldorado Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89120.
