Doris Mae Federwisch, 92, of Henderson, passed away peacefully December 17, 2022 at home surrounded by family. Doris was involved in a catastrophic accident and lost a short but valiant battle for recovery.
Doris was born December 9, 1930 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and graduated North High School in Sheboygan in 1949. She attended Oshkosh State College in Oshkosh WI and graduated with a Bachelor in Education from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
Preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Eleanore Oehmke, husband Harold “Hal” Richard Federwisch (2013), and sister Nancy Hatfield, Doris was married to Hal for 62 years. During this time, she steadily guided the family in moving their homestead 15 times with the United States Air Force and later with the Federal Aviation Administration finally settling in Henderson in 1999. Doris was an elementary school teacher at Rose Warren Elementary in Las Vegas NV. She worked as a secretary at the Morgan Hill Times and a substitute teacher in the Morgan Hill School District in Morgan Hill CA. Doris retired after her work as an administrator at Trical Incorporated, in Hollister CA.
A servant leader, Doris led a fervent life of service to her family, friends, and the community. She volunteered for 10 years at the St. Louise Hospital in Gilroy, CA and then for 10 more years at the Siena Campus of St. Rose Hospital in Henderson. She was an active member of Women-In-Touch. She was the oldest sustaining member of Sun City Anthem’s Women’s Club in Henderson where she was a long-serving charity chairwoman and secretary. She was a long-time member of New Song Lutheran Church, Henderson and was an energetic member of the Southern Hills Republican Women’s Club.
A dignified personality, Doris also loved laughter and competition and for decades reveled with her friends in spirited rivalry as a member of Sun City Anthem’s Bridge Club and community Maj Jongg clubs. She also pursued her creative inspirations in Sun City Anthem’s Arts and Crafts Club.
Doris had an insatiable curiousity in life and as an avid reader had dozens of book titles on her active reading list. She completed all manner of literary works from the classics through autobiographies to modern fiction. She consistently embraced differing viewpoints and perspectives, in particular those regarding political discourse, and led long, vibrant discussions on current world events and geo-political trends. She was an accomplished knitter crafting everything from baby blankets to prayer shawls and loved both square dancing and ballroom dancing.
Of steady bearing and tested mettle, Doris left a positive social, emotional, and spiritual influence on those around her. Truly an inspiration, she left us, her family, friends, and community for the better.
To those who know and love her, in our memories she will be for ever and ever young.
