Dorothy graduated from Laguna Beach High School in 1946. She moved to Las Vegas in the mid-1950’s, and was a 68-year resident of Las Vegas. Dorothy met her husband Bernard (“Bernie”) while they were both working at The Fremont Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas. They were married on May 27, 1960 in a traditional Jewish ceremony (chuppah and all) while in the hospital and Dorothy in bed, post-knee surgery, due to being injured in a car accident on the way to their wedding. They were married for over 41 years until Bernie’s death on July 14, 2001. In 1969, Dorothy became the first woman to become President of the Nevada Mobile Home Park Owners Association. She was an immensely-active member of Temple Beth Sholom where she served as President of the Temple’s Sisterhood in 1969, and worked tirelessly for decades as a volunteer in the planning of community events such as fundraisers, dances, bingo, plays, seminars and other social events. Between the ages of 50 to 60, and after raising four children as a “stay-at-home-mom”, Dorothy returned to school at UNLV and first attained her Bachelor’s Degree and ultimately her Master’s Degree in Education. She worked until the age of 71, and taught art and art history in the Las Vegas public elementary schools. Dorothy loved traveling, cooking and always having friends and neighbors over for family dinners and holidays, and everyone loved her cooking! She was a very spiritual person, a shining light; and always instilled a message of “Stay Positive!” to everyone she met and befriended. Dorothy will be sadly missed, but forever loved and remembered for her endearing and glowing smile, her happy and energetic demeanor, as well as her boundless and selfless generosity to family and friends alike. She epitomized and truly embodied the meaning of an “Eshet Chayil”, a “Woman of Valor”. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Bernard, and is survived by eight grandchildren, and her four children: Linda McInnis (Mervyn) of Laguna Beach, CA; Mitchell Ogron (Melissa) of Las Vegas, NV; David Ogron of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; and Camela Ogron of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. Private family burial services were held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Las Vegas, NV. No other memorial services will be held. The family suggests that any donations that may wish to be made in her honor be made to Temple Beth Sholom, Las Vegas, NV.
