My name is Eboni Sauntee Rebb. My mother (Frances McCrary) and father (Edward Rebb), says my name means "Black Sunshine". I was born in the college town of Macomb, Illinois in 1985. I grew up in the south suburb of Chicago (Kankakee, Illinois) with my mother and stepfather (Terry McCrary). I have two sisters Eyauna Rebb (Yogi) and Tanesha McCrary (T). My parents engaged and encouraged us to explore many different activities.
When I was around 11-years old I realized who Jesus Christ was and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church in Kankakee, Illinois. I joined the choir and realized that I could "really” sing! At around the age of 16, my parents moved to Huntsville, Alabama, where I attended Grissom High school. I continued to sing and I became interested in theater. Can you believe I landed a leading role in the "Grass Harp"? Who would have thought that I would have been acknowledged with so many trophies and acknowledgments of excellence for my singing and acting...but I did.
I graduated in 2003. I applied and was accepted to DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. While at DePaul University, I was a staff writer for the DePaulia newspaper. I wrote poetry and shared my thoughts with the citizens of Illinois through open mic, and Spoken Word events. I graduated from DePaul with a degree in Communications. Like my classmates, I didn't know what I was going to do with my life. My mother advised me "those who can't do, teach" so that's what I did. My first job was with the Kankakee School District as a substitute teacher. I moved back to Chicago where I continued to work as a substitute teacher. While I was on my way to work, I met a member of "From the Heart Church Ministries”, who invited me to service. Curiosity never killed this cat - I knew I needed to renew my vows to Christ. After just a few times visiting, I knew it was time for me to give my life back to our savior. I joined the church. Jobs just were not very plentiful in Chicago and my assignments at the Chicago school system were dwindling. I packed my bags and headed toward Las Vegas, making sure that I would have a church home. I stayed in Las Vegas for two years and decided I needed to move on, so I packed my bags again and headed toward Atlanta, Georgia...I know it seems like I am all over the place, but my parents taught us not to be afraid to venture out and try new things. I moved back to Las Vegas and started working for Wyndham Destinations. I enjoyed my job, but I always thought that my calling was teaching. I applied and was accepted in an overseas program in Japan to teach English. My assignment was to begin in March of 2019.
Now, this is where my story gets good. I received a phone call on December 15, 2018. Guess who was on the main line? That's right "Jesus". He offered me a position that I couldn't refuse. Oh, NO NO NO! Don't cry for me. I'm happy to accept the invitation and the position with my father! I've already picked out my room! Guess what color it is?
