Edith was born September 6, 1936, In Sommerau, Ostpreuβen (East Prussia)/Germany to Albert and Ella (Läuffert) Reich before moving to live with her Aunt Martha while being separated from her parents and brother during the war.
Coming to the United States of America in October of 1951 with her parents and siblings, she lived in Upper Sandusky, Ohio where she met and married Charles Ashmore in 1953. They moved to Las Vegas in 1958.
She went to night classes where she earned her American naturalization in 1970. A strong, independent woman and dedicated mother, she raised four children while working at The Las Vegas Club and The Riviera Hotel & Casino until she retired.
A multi-talented woman, she enjoyed cooking (especially the German dishes she remembered from home), listening to and singing along with her German LPs, sewing, crocheting and embroidery. She made many items of clothing for her children and grandchildren along with household items like curtains, tablecloths and many, many afghans and other blankets that are still in use and cherished every day.
Edith’s singing voice was delightful to listen to, and she had a unique accent that her family will hear as they remember her. She was much loved and will be missed dearly.
Preceding her in death are her sister, Ursula (1971), and her son, Charles (1976).
She is survived by her twin brother, Werner Reich (Mansfield, OH), sons Robert (Portland, OR) and Donald, and daughter, Karen (Jeff) Hudson of Las Vegas. She had seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Edith will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery.
