

Eileen Sowinski passed away on March 7, 2018. Eileen was born in Buffalo, New York, on February 6, 1935 to Walter and Helen Duszynski. She was a daughter, granddaughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, cousin and a grandmother. She received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from D’Youville College, N.Y. and became a RN for over 30 years before retiring from the DuPage County Health Department. Eileen married the love of her life, Robert B. Sowinski in August 1957 and remained married until his passing on November 16, 2016. Together they adopted two children, Mark and Christina.
Eileen enjoyed being a nurse and helping others. She volunteered as a hospice visitor helping patients and their families for many years. She loved traveling, sewing, singing, playing the piano, entertaining friends, cooking and baking. She loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed celebrating the milestones in their lives. She adored her grandson Jakob, two of their favorite pastimes were to sit and chat and to decorate Christmas cookies together.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Sowinski and son, Mark Sowinski, her parents, sister in-law Ruth Micinski and brother in-laws Howard Shorts and John Vasey. She is survived by her sister Dona (John) Vasey, her nieces; Diane (Eric) Bratt, Carolyn Fermoyle, Monika (Patrick) Rhodes, and Theresa (Jeffrey) Lopa and nephews; Paul (Denise) Duszynski and Jonathon Vasey, grandnephews; Corey Bratt, Cody Duszynski, Dominic John Lopa and Vincenzo Jeffrey Lopa, sister in-law and brother in-law Dorothy and Val Duszynski, daughter in-law Stacy Duszynski, along with many cousins, and good friends. She is also survived by her daughter Christina Sowinski and her only grandchild Jakob Sowinski. Eileen was loved by her family and will be missed by all who knew her.
