Fermin Antonio Barrios

Fermin Antonio Barrios, 24, a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on the 19th of May 2017 at Southeast Career Technical Academy. He was born on the 13th of June 1992 at 1:49 a.m. in Los Angeles, California to Fermin and Olga Barrios. He lived in Los Angeles for 3 years before his family permanently settled in the Las Vegas area. Fermin attended Harley Harmon Elementary, Francis H. Courtney Junior High, and Del Sol High. He was in his high school wrestling, cross country and swim teams. He attended College of Southern Nevada as well as business seminars. After high school, he became both a lifeguard and swim instructor for the City of Henderson. He also returned to his high school wrestling team as a coach. He studied criminal justice with the goal of joining the Las Vegas Metro Police Department. He worked several security officer jobs to gain skills and had just taken his first employment exam to join the force. He also developed his shooting skills with experienced former officers. He dreamed of owning a business someday and set his eyes on learning the restaurant business. He joined the Grand Lux Café a year ago where he started as a bus person, was promoted to a food runner and had just been promoted to waiter. Fermin lived a healthy lifestyle and treated his body as a temple. He was a dedicated gym-goer and a regular hiker that always sought new adventures. He was a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner and had earned a blue belt with plans to continue developing his mixed martial arts skills. He was an active motorcycle rider and treated his bike as his baby. He was all about “the bike life” with his crew. They would ride throughout the Las Vegas valley and held long distance rides. His favorite ride was the weekly Sonic Night ride on Thursday nights. Fermin loved traveling and had lately visited Chicago, Miami, Hawaii, South Utah and New York City. He lived a full life, was beloved by tens of family members and friends, and lived life to the fullest. His friends describe him as a humble, loyal, funny, and a great mentor and wonderful friend to have. Fermin is survived by his father, Fermin; his mother, Olga; his sister, Vanessa, who live in Las Vegas; and his brother Marvin, who resides in New York. On Thursday, May 25, 2017, the last Sonic Night bike ride in Fermin’s honor took place in Las Vegas and concluded at Southeast Career Technical Academy at 11:00 p.m. A prayer and a release of sky lanterns took place in his memory. Funeral visitation took place on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Palm Eastern Mortuary, which was followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. and burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Palm Eastern Cemetery in Las Vegas.

El nació el 13 de junio 1992 a las 1:49 a.m. en Los Ángeles, California, hijo de Fermin y Olga Barrios. Él vivió en Los Ángeles por 3 años antes que su familia se mudara permanente en el área de Las Vegas. Fermín atendió Harmon Elementary, Francis H. Courtney Junior High, y Del Sol High. El era parte del equipo de lucha olímpica, campo a través y natación en la high school. El atendió el College of Southern Nevada y también seminarios de negocios. Después de la high school, él se convirtió en un salvavidas e instructor de natación para la ciudad de Henderson. El también regresó a su equipo de lucha de high school como un entrenador. El estudió justicia criminal con la meta de unirse con en Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, y acababa de tomar el examen de empleo. Él trabajó como oficial de seguridad para entrenarse como policía. Y el también hacía practica de tiro con oficiales de policías retirados. Fermín tenía sueños de abrir un negocio algún día y él puso sus ojos al negocio de restaurantes. Él se unió con el Grand Lux Café hace un año donde empezó como bus person, de ahí promovido a food runner y se acababa de ser promovido a mesero. Fermín vivía un estilo de vida saludable y trataba su cuerpo como un templo. Él era atlético y hacía mucho ejercicio. A él también le encantaba escalar montañas, siempre en busca de una nueva aventura. El practicaba el Jiu Jitsu brasileño y ya se había ganado la cinta azul con planes para seguir desarrollando sus habilidades de artes marciales mixtas. El era un motociclista activo y trataba su motocicleta como su bebe. Él era todo por “la vida de la moto” con sus amigos. Ellos paseaban por todo el valle de Las Vegas y también hacía recorridos de larga distancia. Su recorrido favorito era el Sonic Night que tomaba todos los jueves en la noche. Fermín le gustaba viajar mucho y últimamente había visitado Chicago, Miami, Hawái, el sur de Utah, y la Ciudad de Nueva York. El vivió una vida feliz, fue amado por muchos familiares y amigos, y vivió su vida a lo máximo. Sus amigos lo describen como humilde, leal, chistoso, un mentor y un maravilloso amigo. Le sobrevive su padre, Fermín; su madre, Olga; su hermana, Vanessa, que también viven en Las Vegas; y su hermano Marvin, que reside en Nueva York. El jueves, 25 de mayo, 2017 será el último recorrido del Sonic Ride en honor de Fermín que tendrá lugar en Las Vegas y va a concluir en Southeast Career Technical Academy a las 10:45 p.m. Una oración y lanzamiento de linternas del cielo en su memoria. La visitación tomará acabo el viernes, 26 de mayo, 2017, de la 9 a.m. a 1 p.m. en el Palm Eastern Mortuary y seguirá con una Celebración de Vida a las 1 p.m. El entierro tomará lugar a las 2 p.m. en el Palm Eastern Cemetery.
