Lita, my sincere sympathy in the loss of your father.  I lost mine 29 years ago, and while you remember everything, it gets easier to smile along with the memories.

I had professional contact with George Golson many years ago, I can't remember the circumstances (I'm 87), but it was very positive, and I remember him as a class gentleman. God Bless his family,you can be proud of him.

George, you will remain in our hearts and remind us how life should be lived - with humor, the quest to learn, the desire to stay active and to be kind.

Your piano is closed but the melodies of the songs you composed are still in the air. Your essays and short stories tell about your wisdom and fine sense of humor. Your deep thinking about philosophy and faith, about history and future testify for a man of profound culture, open mind and gentle heart. Thank you, George, for being brother and best friend. George, I will miss you dearly my friend.  You always made me laugh and I remember making you laugh as well.  The trips to the Lake Murray fishing cottage will always be great memories for me.  We always had such a good time catching those elusive stripers.  I enjoyed cleaning the fish and cooking them up for us.  Fishermen will always be bonded and I will keep you in my thoughts as I dig in my tacklebox searching for that next fish story!  Good bye my friend, Bill Robinson

George will be missed by me.  He was a wonderful friend and fishing buddy.  My favorite trip was when he came to Sailfish marina at West Palm and the waves were huge. Also many striper trips on Lake Murray.  Hope the fishing is good in the hereafter my friend, Bill Robinson

My father, a native of Brooklyn, New York, was one of a kind.  Dad was proud of his Brooklyn heritage and took great pride in misquoting a line from "The Soldier" by Rupert Brooke (http://www.bartleby.com/232/405.html).  Dad asserted often, "If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field that is forever Brooklyn."

So handsome that he was habitually mistaken for a certain dashing young screen actor while serving in England during WWII, my father claimed to have signed many an autograph book as "James Mason" for ardent fans.

Dad was mentally and athletically facile, a musician, an attorney, an estate planning expert, a nature lover and a romantic.  He was a true Renaissance man.  I knew him well, enjoyed his company and inherited his genes.  I carry the best of him within me; therefore, I feel little sense of loss. I do - on the other hand - feel an all but unutterable sadness in the simple fact that such an individual has ceased to be.   

After a pleasant morning in the company of his beloved wife Sigrid and a couple of friends, Dad died peacefully at home during a nap.  He was ninety-seven years old and had stopped playing racquetball only four years earlier.

On my sixty-fifth birthday, I called my father and asked, "Well, Dad, how does it feel to have a daughter old enough to be eligible for Medicare?"  For once, he did not respond with an immediate retort, leaving me speechless and not just a little smug for having stumped him!  That was two years ago.

I have loved my father all my life and shall love him every day, all day long, forever.
