

Gloria Cruz Barlaan, 79, a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on November 26, 2013 at the Creekside Hospice after a valiant and determined fight against cancer. She was born on March 31, 1934 in Davao City, Philippines to Cornelio Cruz and Isabel Angeles. Gloria met and subsequently married Ignacio Barlaan in Malalag, Davao del Sur on March 6, 1961. That union produced four wonderful children. She was widowed on July 4, 1992. Gloria started working at the age of 18 after receiving her Associate degree in Arts at the University of Mindanao. She then worked as a Court Stenographer at the Regional Trial Court in Davao for 33 years. After retirement, she continued to provide her stenography skills to lawyers before she moved to the US in 2002 to join her children. Gloria worked as a Sales Associate at Walmart and spent eight years working for the company. Gloria loved to discover places, help others, and socialize with friends and family. Her selfless love, determination, and enduring compassion never failed to surprise those who knew her. She is survived by her daughters Isabel Barlaan-Thill and Riza Barlaan-Obrero; sons Marietto Jose Barlaan and Mario Vicente Barlaan; and six wonderful grandchildren Jett, Manisha, Natushi, Louis, Christine, and Chelsea. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Cancer Foundation. A funeral service will be held on December 3, 2013 at 10:00am at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89123; followed by burial at Palm Eastern Cemetery.
