Gwendolyn Joyce Booker

Gwendolyn Joyce Booker, 91 of North, Las Vegas, Nevada, left us peacefully on April 28, 2025, surrounded by family. A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Gwendolyn will always be remembered for her love of children and family, her sassiness and her No Nonsense personality.

Gwendolyn Joyce Booker was born in Springfield, Missouri on May 5, 1933, to Kleiman and Ethel O'Neal. Gwendolyn is the sister to two brothers, Virgil L.O'Neal (deceased) and Albert H. O'Neal (deceased), all of Las Vegas.

Gwendolyn attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Springfield,

Missouri.

She attended and graduated from Lincoln University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She also attended and graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she earned a Master's in Education.

Gwendolyn pledged Delta Sigma Theta while at Lincoln University. She was also one of the founders and charter members of the Las Vegas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

She was a member of the Las Vegas Chapter of Links, Inc.

While attending Lincoln University, she met and married Kermit R. Booker, Jr. To this union, two sons were born: Gary Roderick Booker and Keith Dallas Booker.

After graduating from Lincoln University, Gwendolyn moved to Germany to be with her husband who was in the military. After a few years, they moved to Elko, Nevada. While in Elko, Nevada, Gwendolyn worked at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC), as did her husband.

In 1960, Gwendolyn and her husband moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. After a year of being in Las Vegas, Nevada, Gwendolyn worked as a teacher at J.E. Manch. She later worked at Rose Warren where she retired, after serving over 45 years as an educator.

Her brothers, Virgil and Albert and her brother-in-Law, Jerald Payne Booker, all of Las Vegas preceded her in death. Her husband preceded her in death in 2000.

She is survived by her son, Gary R. Booker, her daughter-in-law, Yvonne Booker, son Keith D. Booker, her daughter-in-law Bridgette Booker, her six grandchildren Jazmyne, Nicole, Dillon, Justin, Chelsea and Jessica and her nieces, Jacinda/Jenene, Jennifer and Janell.
