Helen Trogdon Barbe, age 95, formerly of Las Vegas, passed away surrounded by her family on May 6, 2018 in Camarillo, California. Helen was born in Portageville, Missouri on April 25, 1923. Three years later, her sister, Aleta, was born. Helen was not too happy, because she really wanted a brother. However, the sisters soon became inseparable. Helen was raised in Tennessee until age 12 when her father, Joseph Trogdon, passed away. Helen, Aleta and their mother, Ora McKenzie then moved to Iowa. At age 16, Helen married Norman Douglas and they had a son named Dale. After a divorce, Helen later married Glen Barbe. They moved to Las Vegas where she worked as a waitress, and always said that it was her favorite job. Through the years, the family also owned a Spudnuts shop and an alterations store. Later on, Helen worked at the Desert Inn for 23 years, as cashier and was promoted to the head cashier. Her son, Dale, married Binnie Syde of Las Vegas in 1965. They gave Helen a wonderful granddaughter named Courtenay. Sadly, her son passed away in 1986. Her daughter-in-law later married Colonel John Zink, who adopted her granddaughter, Courtenay. Helen continued to be an active part of all their lives. After both sisters became widows, Helen moved to Camarillo, CA and lived with Aleta for 18 happy years. In 2001, Courtenay married Matthew Salisbury of Phoenix, Arizona and blessed Helen with two amazing great-grandchildren, Brendan and Madelene. They became the greatest love and joy of her life. Helen Barbe loved her family, and they loved her…always and forever!
