Iris Jean Query passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada with her family by her side. Jean was born June 15, 1931 in Chedworth, England, a small village in the Cotswolds.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Isabelle Coates, husband Duane of 41 years, and daughters Jacqueline and Stephanie.
She is survived by her son, Bradford (Ginny) of Henderson, Nevada. Brother Philip (Liz) of Cheltenham, England, Grandson Benjamin, Granddaughters, Cassondra and Nikole; Bianca (Austin) and Basia, Great Grandchildren Alexis, Willow, Rhia, Jaylen, Charles and Braxton along with nieces and nephews currently residing in various parts of the United Kingdom and Australia.
Jean enjoyed a wonderful, carefree childhood only to be shortened by the onset of World War Il. During the war years the young girls, along with ladies of the village, participated in a number of activities one of which was knitting garments such as gloves, mittens, sweaters, scarves and sea-boot socks for various branches of the Armed Services for which they received numerous accolades. It wasn't long before Jean found herself working for a living, starting out in the Banking industry.
She maintained a passion for competitive sports and in the early 1950s she was honored to be picked as a Reservist for the All England Ladies Field Hockey Team. In May 1955 Jean found herself headed for the USA together with US Air Force husband, Duane and young daughter Jacqueline to begin a new life at Lockbourne Air Force Base, in Ohio. Two years later, daughter Stephanie was born. For the ensuing 20 years of military life, they saw various parts of America, one of which included Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Jean immediately became excited about the missile launches and would often set the alarm to get up to watch a launch. Many launches were scrapped much to Jean's disappointment. Jean was now working for a local bank and enjoying life in California where son Bradford was born.
The family arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1965, ultimately making it their permanent home. Jean was hired by First National Bank of Nevada eventually retiring in 1993 from Wells Fargo Bank with 25 years of service and a total of 36 years in the banking industry.
Jean loved to spend time with her grandchildren sharing with them the many differences in the cultures between England and America. They learned that a biscuit to Jean was a cookie to them!!
Jean was a fun-loving person, she had a great sense of humor, she enjoyed her wine and cheese get-togethers with close friends and family dinners. She was a kind hearted person. She volunteered a great deal of her time with various social functions within her community.
She had a passion for the game of Scrabble, challenging one and all to a game at any time she had a chance.. She would welcome a game of cards, but not poker!
Please feel free to make a contribution in Jean's name to the Audubon Society or your Charity of choice.
