

James Edward Haig, age 81, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025. He was born an only child to his parents Robert George Haig and Anastasia Fitzgerald on October 15, 1943 in Queens, New York. James graduated from Archbishop Malloy High School and went on to enlist in the U.S Marine Corps.
James served honorably in the US Marine Corps as a 7011, Expeditionary Airfield Systems Technician. His duties included installing, maintaining, and repairing airfield systems; including arresting gear, lighting, and markings; as well as, designing airfields and conducting landing zone surveys. James completed his tour of duty obtaining the rank of Corporal; qualifying as an expert rifleman, and receiving a good conduct medal.
Following his honorable service as a US Marine, James headed back home to New York, settled down and started his family. Through his first marriage he would be blessed with two daughters. To support his growing family, James studied to become an X-Ray Technologist, and received his training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital in New York. James would continue working at the hospital for a few years after obtaining his licensing, until transferring to Hillcrest Hospital in Queens, New York.
While working at Hillcrest Hospital, James would meet the love of his life, Loretta Fabian, who worked there as well. The couple were married on October 30, 1982, in Bayside, New York. Together they would blend their lives and families, and embark on a journey that would span over the next 42 years.
After a few years, James and Loretta, decided to start a new journey in life, and relocate to West Palm Beach, Florida, where they would buy a Hallmark Card Store. The couple owned and operated their store for the next seven years. James realized that he missed working in the hospital, so in 1997, the couple would again relocate; but this time, to Las Vegas, Nevada. James went to work in the X-Ray department at Sunrise Hospital Medical Center.
James worked at Sunrise Hospital for a couple of years until a new opportunity arose for him to make a final move. In 2004, He elected to accept a position to be part of the First Team to open up Southern Hills Hospital. It was here that he found his home. He loved the company he worked for, loved his job, and his Southern Hills Family up until his last day.
James was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; who enjoyed spending time on his computer, reading, and with his kittie princess, Sophie. In his leisure time, he liked watching movies, and listening to his old time country music. He also liked to travel back home to New York to visit his daughters and grandchildren, and supporting his community as a Life Member of the Marine Corps League detachment 495.
James was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Loretta; his two daughters: Lisa and Jamie, and his grandchildren.
A visitation for James will be held Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM, both at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. James will be laid to rest with US Marine Corps honors in Palm Eastern Cemetery, also located at 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
