James "Jimmy" Harvey, 81, long time resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 peacefully in his home with his loving wife and granddaughter by his side. Friends and family were present also. He had a long battle with Parkinson's and finished his race and went home to be with the Lord. Jimmy was born on February 14, 1936 in Holly Springs, SC to Robert and Merle Harvey. He was the middle child of four sisters. He met his soul mate Jean, at the age of 19 and married her two years later in 1957. On June 28, 2017 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends. Jimmy and Jean had one son, James Robert Harvey. At the age of 22, Jimmy joined the Air Force and served diligently until his retirement as an E7 officer in 1981. He served in the Vietnam War and received medals such as the Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force commendation with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal (18 July 58 through 17 July 79) with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After retiring from the Air Force, Jimmy went to work for EG&G where he worked until his retirement in 1996. Jimmy enjoyed traveling with his wife, fishing as often as he could with his good friend, spoiling his granddaughter, cooking chili, and being at the BBQ grill with a cocktail or beer in hand. In his later years, he loved spending time with his two great grandchildren who brought him more joy than one could imagine and gave him reason to continue fighting the fight with Parkinson's. Jimmy is following his son, James to Heaven. He is survived by his wife, Jean Harvey; his granddaughter Renee Slocum; and his two great-grandchildren, Emily and Jimmy Slocum. A private service will be held on January 16, 2018 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. An open reception to any who would like to attend will be held at his granddaughter's house at 1:00pm following the service.
