

James could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He enjoyed working in his garage shop repairing or building wood projects as well as running the sound system on Sundays at church. Those who knew Mr. Shutt kept his telephone number on speed dial for when or if they needed help with something.
While still in school, Mr. Shutt dropped out of school to enlist in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Shutt was stationed on Saipan as he was serving on a PT boat. After being discharged from the U.S. Navy, Mr. Shutt returned to Normal, Illinois where he went back to school and graduated.
After graduation, Mr. Shutt then worked in the service department of a local appliance sales company. Leaving Normal, Illinois Mr. Shutt moved to Peoria, Illinois where he enlisted in the Illinois Air National Guard. Several years later Mr. Shutt moved to Springfield, Illinois where he worked for a local company performing service work on 32 and 64 track data recorders all around the globe. After several years, Mr. Shutt moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked at the government test site located north of Las Vegas, Nevada. When the government closed the program down Mr. Shutt became a home inspector and did handy man work for people he knew. He did not completely retired until approximately two years ago.
Mr. Shutt was a member of Center For Spiritual Living of GLV for over 40 years. He originally set up a sound system and managed it for over 30 years. James was on the Board of Trustees for over 12 years and was custodian of the church for over 30 years, overseeing the building expansion of the church. James continued his charity at Unity Church of Las Vegas over 10 years following his passion running the sound system and custodian work.
Mr. Shutt was preceded in death by one daughter, one sister, and four brothers.
James is survived by two sisters, Martha Orns and Mary Ann McCoy and one brother, David L. Shutt. He is also survived by his wife Shirley R. Shutt; two sons James S. Shutt and Terry L. Shutt; four stepdaughters Barbara Ketcham, Karen Fegurson, Linda Phillips and Lisa Oana; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will held at Palm Eastern Cemetery on Wednesday March 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
