Jesus G Nava was born Jan 3, 1939. In Toluca, Mexico. He was born to Abelardo and Maria de la luz. He was the youngest of 5 children. He had two older brothers, Abelardo and Jorge. His sisters were Dolores, and Luz Maria. He learned to live at a very young age without his father. He developed a deep sense of loyalty to care for his entire family despite he was the youngest.
At the age of 24 he married in Rosa Amelia in Naucalpan, Mexico, 28 Aug 1963. They had five children. His first children were twins, Jesse and Rosalinda. Two years later another son, Albert was born.
In August 1970 the family moved from Mexico city to Chicago, IL where their fourth child, Omar was born. Two years later their fifth and final child was born, Sergio.
Jesus worked a number of jobs that include painter, factory worker at the Solo cup company. He spent most of his working years as printing pressman at the Mead Packaging company. On one occasion his left hand was pulled in between two printing rollers causing a severe crush injury. It took a long time for Jesus to rehabilitate but eventually returned to full duty at work. Unfortunately, safety measures were not improved at work. On another occasion, his right hand was pulled in between two rollers. This resulted in a partial amputation of his hand. It involved reconstructive surgery of the rest of his hand , leaving him disabled. Jesus was unable to return to work and became a full time homemaker. At one point he opened a small fast food business not far from Wrigley Field.
In the summer of 1987 he moved the family to Las Vegas, NV to improve living environment for his family and to prepare for retirement years. He loved playing penny slots and eating out at hotel buffets.
Jesus suffered a debilitating stroke fall of 1993. He rehabilitated to the best of his ability. From that point he spent almost all his remaining years living with his oldest son, Jesse. Recently, he was fortunate enough to spend some time in Florida with his son Albert and his family.
Jesus was very meticulous in the care and appearance of his home. He did this by finding creative ways to perform home repairs on his own, using the assistance of close family friends, and putting all his children to work around the house. He insisted having some of his children present while he paid bills to learn how to write checks, balance bank accounts, and compose business correspondence. When Jesus became a home maker he enjoyed preparing meals for his family.
He loved to help others get a fresh start in this country, whether it was opening his home or helping them job hunt. He loved large get- togethers with family and friends. He especially enjoyed these while grilling over a charcoal grill in the yard, local and far away parks. With the help of a little Tequila, he was known to belt out a classic mariachi song. Jesus also enjoyed playing dominoes, and going to the movie theatre. For a period of time he rode a large motorcycle. He involved his sons in meticulously maintaining the appearance of his cars.
Jesus will be remembered for being ambitious and wanting more for his children than he had. He worked very hard and demanded an opportunity at the American dream. He was a strict disciplinarian who had high standards for his children. He had a strong sense of loyalty to caring for and looking after his own mother and siblings. He enjoyed simples things in life. In his final years he expressed his desire for his family to love one another and take care of each other.
God called him home on Saturday, January 26. Jesus was 74 years old. He will never be completely gone. His spirit will endure. His children will carry on his loving memory and pass it on to Jesus' grandchildren. All the sacrifices Jesus made for his family, all the hope he had for his children will never be forgotten. We will be with you again.
