Bill was born June 25, 1947, to John and Betty Brennan in East St. Louis, IL, and was the oldest of five children. He played football and baseball and graduated from Assumption Catholic High School. In 1969, Bill voluntarily joined the Army, served in Vietnam and earned multiple service and accommodation medals, including a Bronze Star. Afterward, Bill spent nearly 30 years as an insurance claims adjuster and supervisor in Belleville, Il., Portland, OR, and Las Vegas, NV.
Three things Bill loved most in life were his family, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and ice cream! Throughout his adult life, Bill was passionate about his attire, his golf game and sobriety. He enjoyed regular rounds of golf with family and friends and often quipped, “Hey if you can’t play good, at least look good!” Although he never boasted about being sober for 33 years, he was proud of his achievement. Bill regularly helped others successfully progress through Alcoholics Anonymous and was actively involved in the Rarely Golf League, which was dedicated to helping those in the program find friendship and support through a common interest in golf.
Bill is survived by his beloved partner Phyllis Davis, with whom he shared a life of love and commitment with for 17 years; his son and daughter-in-law Nicholas and Renee Brennan, grandchildren Sydney, Jake, and Abigail Brennan; sisters Marty (Jamie) Haas and Kathy (Rich) Barbee; sister- and brother-in-law Shelly Brennan and Bob Hursey; nieces and nephews; and Phyllis’ daughter Andrea (Chuck) Moreno, son David (Michele) Davis, and grandchildren Kylee Moreno and Noah Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kevin, and sister Chris Hursey.
