John spent his youth and teen years in Billings, Montana. When his father passed away unexpectedly, the family moved back to Greenbush, Minnesota, where John graduated from High School in 1973. John moved to the Twin Cities the day after graduation where he resided for many years. John spent four years in the Air Force as an Air traffic Controller, stationed in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
After his time in the service he became a painting contractor in the Twin Cities area. John enjoyed spending time with his wife and daughters and loved sharing his passion for cars with all he knew. With the many cars he has owned over the years, “Woodrow,” the 1949 Ford Woodie Wagon was by far his favorite.
John moved to Las Vegas, Nevada permanently in 2018 to escape the Minnesota winters, which he disliked with a passion.
John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Renee (nee Hulne); his daughters Amanda Woitas (Mark Stephens) and Alex Woitas (Nick Donofrio). He also left behind family members; his sister Maribeth Woitas (Edward Seltzer; nephew Tyler); brothers Robert Woitas (Karen; neice Katlyn) and Kevin Woitas (Lori Swenson); aunts and uncles; cousins; and friends in Las Vegas, NV, as well as Minnesota. He was an amazing husband, father, brother and all around good guy, loved by all. He will be greatly missed by all who met him, as his funny and gentle personality endeared him to many.
While his family will miss him dearly, they are comforted that not only has he been reunited with his father and mother, he has also been greeted by his cat Lola and his dog Trixie. (Although he always told his family that he disliked animals, his family knew the truth.)
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Viator in Las Vegas, NV at a date yet to be determined. The family will add the date and time of the funeral when it is available.
