Petty Officer 1st Class (AZ1) JOSE AGTARAP ELUMBA U.S. Navy, Retired. Jose A. Elumba, 87, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018. He was born September 3, 1931, in Manila, Philippines, and is one of eight children born to Dionisio and Justina. He was married to Julita (Dacanay) on March 3, 1962. He was a 15-year resident of Henderson, Nevada.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1960 and served 20 years in the U.S. Navy and completed his military career with Patrol Squadron 65 (VP-65) responsible for the squadron’s Aviation Administration at Point Mugu Naval Air Station. He is also a retired employee of Ventura County responsible for computer systems administration. He attended Manuel L. Quezon University studying criminal law, but was forced to drop out of college when his father died and he had to raise and support four brothers and three sisters. He continued his college education during and after his Navy career at Harper College and Oxnard College and received Associates Degrees in Business Management (1983) and General Liberal Arts and Sciences with Honors (1985). He enjoyed playing and watching sports including boxing, basketball and tennis. He was an avid golfer and won many tournaments over the years and went on numerous golfing trips to the Philippines with his golf buddies. After moving to Henderson in 2003, he enjoyed going to the casinos where he enjoyed the shows, buffets and the slot machines of which Dancing Drums was one of his favorites.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Julita; son, Jeffrey (Cynthia) of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Joyce Magsarili (Andrew) of Tustin, CA; son Joseph (Rossana) of Aliso Viejo, CA; grandchildren, Anthony, Alyssa and Aidan; brother, Dionisio of San Jose, CA; sister, Isabelita Mendoza of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 -9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89123. Funeral Services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, Nevada 89015. Burial following at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, Nevada 89005.
