Joseph Edmund Grabowski, 86, of Las Vegas, Nevada, reunited with his beloved wife, Sandra [nee Smith] Grabowski in eternal life on February 9, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and nurse, Joe lived a life of service, love, and laughter.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Joseph Edmund Grabowski Sr. and Meredith (Townsend) Grabowski, Joe proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force before pursuing a career in nursing. Inspired by his time in the Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps, he earned his nursing degree in 1973 from the State University of New York – Upstate Medical Center’s School of Nursing, one of only two men in his graduating class. His dedication to learning led him to further his education, and he was later selected as one of ten nurses for an advanced Nurse Practitioner program at the University of New Mexico. Joe’s passion for patient care took him to what he described as the most fascinating place in a hospital -- the emergency room -- always striving to help others with skill and compassion. His humor and warmth endeared him to colleagues and patients alike.
Joe’s greatest joy was his family. After marrying the love of his life, Sandra, in 1977, he shared an unbreakable bond with his stepchildren. Joe and Sandy built a beautiful life together, filled with adventure, deep companionship, and a shared love of animals. From Lhasa Apsos to Basset Hounds, their home was always filled with wagging tails and unconditional love. Whether cooking for family, cracking jokes, or offering a listening ear, Joe made every moment special.
After Sandra’s passing in 2019, Joe carried on with the love of his family keeping his spirit strong. His legacy of kindness, service, and laughter will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him.
Joe is survived by his three step-children, each of Las Vegas NV: Debra Wilkerson, Kevin (Susie) Bullock, and Kimberly Favazza, who all loved him as a father. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness - Aaron, Brianna, Johnny, and Amanda. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rosalinde LaFrancois, whom he shared six children with: Chérie, Desiree, Renee, Joseph III, Denise (deceased), and Michael (deceased).
Joe’s Celebration of Life will take place at Palm Eastern Cemetery, 7600 South Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. The graveside service will be on Thursday, February 20, 2025 @ 1:00 PM, directly behind the funeral home by the mausoleum. Entombment will be held at the same time, where military rites will be held.
