

Kevin Vincent Murphy, 51 years of age, resided in Henderson, Nevada, and passed away on October 5, 2016. Kevin was born on October 8, 1964 in Mountain View, California to Francis & Marie Murphy. He was married to his beautiful wife Leticia Murphy and had 3 children and 1 grandson. In high school, Kevin played football and ran track and field. After graduating high school, he went on to join the Air Force on March 14, 1986. He served over four years with the Air Force. In 1991, Kevin joined the Henderson Police Department where he would soon meet his wife.
Kevin and Leticia Murphy married on December 3, 1992, and he had an instant family. Kevin became a father to a 9 year old girl and 3 year old boy, Amelia and Brandon. On July 14, 1996, Kevin and Leticia welcome a baby boy Cameron Murphy. Kevin and Leticia created a happy home and raised their children. On February 2, 2001, he becomes a grandfather to Devlin Hyden. In 2008, Kevin suffered a back injury and later transitions into the PEAP program. As a PEAP Officer, Kevin continued to serve his community by being of service to other officers, agencies, departments, and their loved ones.
Kevin’s accomplishments include: Serving in areas such as Department Training Officer, Southern Nevada Regional Police Academy – Training and Counseling (TAC) Officer, D.A.R.E. Officer, Community Relations Officer and the City of Henderson Special Events Coordinator. He is currently a member of the E.A.P. Multi-Jurisdictional Emergency Response Task Force, Advisory Board Member of the Trauma Intervention Program, Board of Representatives for the Injured Police Officers Fund and sits on the Board of Directors of HPD Family Support Network. Kevin was also a Peer Advocate for Safe Call Now to assist the first responders in Southern Nevada.
Kevin loved spending time with his wife, family, cooking, hiking, photography, and swimming. As a husband, friend, father, and grandfather, he was strict, corny, protective, opinionated, and loving. He enjoyed all music from jazz to gangsta rap. In his younger days, he was a dj and a hip hop dancer. He was also highly proficient in TKO, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Kempo. The man could also make a mean bowl of guacamole.
He is preceded by his brother Dan Murphy. He is survived by his wife Leticia Murphy, son Cameron Murphy, son Brandon Brown, daughter Amelia Hyden, Grandson Devlin Hyden, father Francis Murphy, mother Marie Murphy, brother Jim Murphy, brother Terry Murphy, sister Maureen Baker, nephew Chris McCarthy, and niece Ally Baker.
Kevin was a lover of Christ, an amazing husband, father, brother, son, a servant, and a hero. He will always be remembered for his encouraging words and Thursday Thoughts. He is loved and will be forever missed.
